Had breakfast with Hope at a well known restaurant in outer sunset called Outerlands. Was also recommended to us by Jess our tour leader who's sister worked there. Very nice, and unusual. Got our stuff ready and thanked Hope and then headed to pick up the RV. So much for 'pick up in San Francisco' - it took 2 hours of public transport and then a good half an hour traipsing through car yards to find the RV place. Was able to pick it up at 1 and after waiting for people to go through stuff and paperwork we didn't set off until just after 2!
Stacey started off driving Boris (our campers name) and what a horrible drive to start off with! Terrible peak hour traffic as we were still near to the city - and had to drive right past it to get to where we needed to go. Boris looks really small from the outside but there is actually plenty of room inside. Literally just chucked our stuff in boris and headed off. The plan was to take some of the coast road up - which was very scenic but the road was so windy that we wouldn't have got to our campsite until the next morning. So cut back into more of a main road where I started driving. Very difficult to be on the wrong side of the car and road! And Boris is so wide that it's very hard to stay inside the lines. You basically have to feel like you are on the middle line to not be hanging over the edge of the road!
No time to stop and shop so had a Burger King for dinner and set back off and drove into the night. Really annoying because you could tell where we were driving through was really scenic, but couldn't see any of it! FINALLY got to our campsite at 11.45pm (just in time before the office closed) and literally fell into bed with our clothes on. Our first night in Boris! Hopefully the rest of our days will be a bit more successful!
